That would mean the body tag info is on the registry

Probably, usually the more 'vin' support the better. If it's on the Demmer list with the last 6 numbers of the vin, check the vin stamp on the engine block, vin stamp on the tranny and the vin is also on the frame, drivers side, outer edge of the frame roughly around the frame in relation to the start of the door.

Do you have one or are you looking at one?

Unlikely, since the title goes by the VIN, and the 69 H/O has a 442 VIN.

Of course, state DMVs can do all kinds of wacky things. My first 1968 442 (with a real 344... VIN) was titled as a Cutlass by the state of Massachusetts. Being a college student at the time, I didn't correct them for fear that my car insurance would go up.

What it says on the title (other than the VIN and make) is virtually meaningless, and is certainly *not* any means of positive identification of any car. In most states, it has no legal meaning either, it is simply the the VIN that has any legal ties to the car. In other words, if the title VIN matches the car VIN, then it is a legally correct title for the car regardless of what it says in the year and model fields of the title. That's one of the reasons you see lots of whacky things as models on titles. Another example is an Ohio title I had for a 1965 Triumph Spitfire that the title claimed was a '60 TR3. The BMV informed me that with the matching VIN, the title was legal and good.
Note that especially with some older foreign cars, it was not that unusual to mix and match body parts, and trying to determine what the body really was on one of the "mixed" cars could be difficult. But usually that was not a problem for titling the car. And for those that would know, yes, you really can't make a '65 Spitfire out of a '60 TR3.
