Muffler Removal Tips

Hey guys,

I need to replace one of the mufflers on my 98 and I'm just wondering if there are any tips for removing it easily. I know HOW to remove it but I'm wondering if I'm going to get hung up with it getting stuck after being clamped on there for years.

Any info and tips would be greatly appreciated as I'm hoping to get this done in a limited amount of time in preparation for taking the car out this weekend.

thanks!

Remove clamps and a BFH. A fire wrench comes in real handy.

Air tools are best but if you don't have any like me a cutoff wheel on a small grinder comes in handy if the clamps are seized up with rust

Thanks guys. I got started last night and had some success already. Luckily, rust is not an issue and the clamps came right off. What seemed to work was a lot of heat at the joint and a small sledge hammer on a clamp that I mounted mid-pipe. I rocked the pipe a bunch and that got the downpipe out of the muffler and now I just need to get the muffler off of the tailpipe. I'll probably do more heat and hammering for that. So far, so good. Can't wait to hear my car purring again! Thanks for the tips gang!
