oil change 72 Toro 55k possibly has Mobile one?

Sooo...I'm going through my honey do list on my new pretty and since FEDEX broke one of my new 1/2 shaft axles, I have more time to get to other stuff.
I want to change the oil and the P.O.s son said He "THINKS" Dad had Mobile one in it forever and my dilemma is if that's in it I would like to keep it consistent.

Mobile one's site just wants to sell mobile one. and offers no info on how to identify it. Right now it just looks like dirty oil.

My reg use oil on all my gasser cars is Castrol and Rottella in the cummins.

What would YOU DO?

Hoping all ya'll have fun under the hood on this long weekend.

The car is 41 years old and has 55 k on it so perhaps He did just that!
2 years would have an avg. of 2682 mi so yea, I can believe that.

I don't change my oil when its "old" I change it when it has 3000 miles on it.

I'm gonna pop the breather off and take a peek. One would assume it should be pretty clean with mobile one in it all this time.

I would suspect that it will look like any other oil that has been in an engine for a long period time, blackish. I would just run what ever oil your comfortable with.

JMHO, I do not like syn oil in older engines. Mobile 1 is great oil, but I don't think it is good in engines built with the tolerances that were acceptable back then. I am also sure its formulation has changed since 74 to keep up with the newer engine requirements, and everyone I know that puts it in older engines/vehicles has a problem with leaks.
And, as OC says above, just put whatever good oil you are comfortable with, but I would think of a zinc additive or a oil high in it.
