Hardware part numbers

I found the part number of a piece of hardware I need in the manual. Is there a place to look up the number and get a description of the piece? For example 9421485 screw. How can I tell what size, head, finish, etc? Thanks

It might be easier if you explained what it's for.

This hardware is for mounting the hood light to the hood on a 70 442. I was hoping there was a way to look up all the hardware I needed by the part numbers to get it as original as possible. Is there a hardware manual that gives a good description of each bolt or screw?

The AMK Products Inc. (www.amkproducts.com) catalog is a wonderful source of American automotive fasteners. They even provide a cross-reference to some older GM part numbers to their catalog part numbers. I looked up your number, though, and didn't find it.

When I was restoring my '68 and couldn't find a part number, I just took the fastener and compared it to the fasteners listed in the catalog. In nearly all cases, the fasteners in the AMK catalog are pictured at their actual size. Most of the time, I could find a fastener under a different part number that matched perfectly with what a wanted.

AMK is good in that respect. However, their minimum order is around $36 and minimum shipping is $8. Sometimes you may need only one or two fasteners of a certain kind but all you can get is 6 or 8 in a package. Just some things to consider if you decide to use AMK as a fastener resource. Personally, I like AMK because of the detail they present in their catalog.

Thanks, That is a good website. I see what you mean. They do have some GM part numbers listed on some of their hardware. Good pictures too. I guess GM didn't have a hardware manual.

That very catalog is available free of charge on Wild About Cars. And right up the alley for a '69 car is the '72 version of that catalog, also on WAC.

Wild About Cars. http://wildaboutcars.com. An information supersource, especially Oldsmobile. More Olds content than anywhere else on the internet and continuing to grow.
You'll find Chassis Service Manuals, Product Information Manuals (AKA Assembly Manuals), Inspector's Manuals, and other documents that will contain this and much much more.
Dealer Brochures, magazine ads and articles, and a home page for you online with your own garage where you can show off what you have.
