68 dashboard

Just noticed while looking at some 68 442 pics , the top of the dash above the gauges some have bumps following the contour of the lines of the gauge. Some of the dashes just go straight across. Why is this?

If you look at a shot that's taken more than 4 or 5 feet away it looks like the top of the dash is flat across. Every 68 or 69 dash pad I've ever seen has bumps over each gauge.

This is my dash:

Thanks , I was confused as to why my dash was flat and some others were curved.

That's one of the first new things I've learned about 68's in a long time, thanks,

Could someone post a pic of one

on a related subject is this early/late production thing the same reason that some 68's have a black center/glove box dash w/ a colored interior and some have the matching colored center section to the interior

It's an 80's Mercruiser tach I originally picked up to replace the one in my boat. I liked the colors & it matched the 68 gauges so well I ended up using it. I mounted it in a 68 gauge set. It looks like a factory gauge

I'm probably going to sell it once I get my Rallye Pac installed

Is it an F85 dash? The reason I ask is because the product brochure for '68 shows a 442 dash and a Supreme dash, and both are flat. I realize that the 442 could be an F85, or one w/o the dash vents, but usually when promoting product they like to use one that promotes the car and lures in the customer. The printing date on my brochure is August 1967, so I am not sure if the early ones were all made that way.

My '68 Cutlass "S" built in Nov of '67 has the flat dash pad.
I also installed a tach from an early Starfire. I think the ones from '61 to maybe '66 Starfire should work. Mine is a '62
