Rear speaker enclosure

My car has the factory original AM/FM/8-track with the fader (single speaker in the center dash and single speaker in the rt rear package tray). I see some of the restoration companies offer a jute padded, cardboard speaker enclosure. The 'bible' (assembly manual) makes no mention of this and shows in detail the rear speaker installation and components with NO enclosure. I have seen the enclosure(s) on some other unrestored GMs of the period. I'm sure it improves the speaker sound but if it didn't come that way originally, I don't want it. Anybody have any info on this.

It may have been used in later years but just happened to fit the older ones, too (maybe with mods).

I have seen many repro catalogs saying this and that is for this year and mosel when it is really not.
