Rochester Quadra jet Rebuilt Kit

Rochester Quadra jet Rebuilt Kit

Trying to find a rebuild kit for my Rochester Quadra jet Carburetor. I'm taking it to a guy tomorrow to have it rebuilt & he requires that I provide a rebuild kit with float. I'm wondering if I could find one on Amazon, or at NAPA or AutoZone. Number on my carburetor is 7029251RJ. I looked on Amazon but couldn't find one to match those numbers. I'm going to call NAPA & AutoZone tomorrow. Also, the large nut I circled on the front of the carb with Red, just spins and does not tighten into the carb. Is that normal? Any idea's guys?

The fuel filter is inside the circled part of the carb. The reason it won’t tighten is because it’s stripped and will need to be helicoiled.

Cliffs Q-Jets. He has all the parts to properly rebuild the carb, the parts to properly calibrate the carb to your specific engine, and the parts to fix the stripped fuel filter housing.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have a Rochester Guru local that I'm taking it to tomorrow or as soon as I find a rebuild kit. I'm sure he has everything that's needed, he's been doing it forever. Someone added an external fuel filter so that answers the question of why. I figured that was the fuel filter housing, I kind of remember from back in the day now that you reminded me. I appreciate the info but still looking to where to buy the Rebuild Kit.

Most carb kits will not include a float. Floats are available separately.
In my way of thinking, plastic floats should always be replaced when rebuilding a carb.
Too much chance that something will go wrong with them.

This post can be closed now. I took my Q-Jet to a local guy who's been rebuilding Q's for over 60 years. He told me to send it to Custom Carburetors in New Jersey because the part that the fuel filter sits in needs to be heli-coiled and where the throttle linkage comes out of the side of the carb is too loose and he just didn't have the equipment to restore it. I looked on Custom Carburetors website and it's just too expensive at this point for me to send it out. I'll deal with that later in life. Story closed. Thanks for all your suggestions

Try John Herold jr @ Oldsmotion. He does great work and can fix both of those issues.

Not to rain on your parade if your carb is original and you’re picky about numbers but be aware you can buy rebuilt carbs on eBay if you dig around and take a little time to understand the market.

Typically if the fuel fitting is that loose, you’re talking about a well used carb. I’m also leery (but unexperienced) of heli-coiling a fuel fitting. I’ve used heli-coils to seal carb vacuum, but fuel seals mean a higher standard seal to me. A vacuum leak usually means a poor running engine. A fuel leak from carb to a hot intake can cause a fire.

If the fuel fitting is that loose, any rebuild should include re-bushing the primary and maybe secondary throttle shafts in the throttle plate. If these have vacuum leaks (even tiny ones) it’ll throw off your air/fuel metering and it may be difficult to get the car to idle correctly.

At higher RPM’s you won’t feel it, but vacuum leaks can cause these cars to idle badly.

Good luck. Qjets are great carbs, but they need some checking & calibration to run right. Not as simple as Holley, but when they’re right they drive beautifully.
