I replaced the master cylinder and the brakes are working fine. However after hooking up power again I found the brake lights were on. The brake pedal isn't in the same location as before - travel is about 1/4" less and the brake switch is on. So the question: Do I adjust the length of the pushrod going into the master cylinder, or do I adjust the setting on the brake light switch?

 

Are you running the stock power booster? If yes, then adjust the clevis at the brake pedal connection to bring the pedal higher. If no, then you need to check the travel of the booster pin to the master cylinder.

 

No power brakes, just manual disc, but all stock pieces.

 

The switch is designed to be easily adjusted. It just pushes into the clip that holds it until it bottoms on the pedal arm. Just be careful not to move the pedal while you do that.

 

Thanks, Joe, that's what I thought - I just wasn't sure if that was the correct adjustment to do (between the two possibilities) in this situation.

 

If you are happy with the amount of travel in the pedal, and it doesn't get close to the floor, then adjust the switch. If you think the pedal travel is too close to the floor, then adjust the pushrod first.
