Shifter base difference

Shifter base difference

Can anyone tell me the difference for these? Is one a 70 and other a 71-72?

Notice mounting holes

Cable mount different

the 69-70 base is the same and has a provision for the NSS oneof yours is a 71-72 not sure about the other

The shifter on the left is the 1971 first type with the short pin for the cable attachment. The shifter on the right is the 1971-72 second type with the long pin for the shifter cable. The base plates were changed to match. The long pin version superseded the short pin version for replacement use in the parts book.

So this would be strictly a 70 shifter with the reverse safety switch? Also were most shifter bases just straight cast in color? I’ve have two what I think are 71-72 shifters that look flat black? Just curious how the left the factory I would find it funny if they wasted time to paint them?
