Question 1969 442 Core Support Shims (As Required)

How would I know how many shims to use? What were the engineers trying to get it level in relation to?

Thanks!

I always thought those shims were for fender gap adjustment at the top of the door/fender

X3. All body shims are used to take out manufacturing tolerances in the body panels. That's why they are "as required". You have no way of knowing how a particular set of stamped panels are manufactured until you bolt them up.

They are 1/8" inch thick. Parts Place and Inline Tube have a few options.

I needed 3 or 4 on each side to get everything lined up right.

Thanks guys. I'm going to be pulling the fenders, re-setting the doors and work forward. Nothing lines up Looks like whomever owned it before me just slapped it back together.

From what I understand, one hangs and adjusts the doors to the body, then one hangs and adjusts the fenders to the doors, then one hangs and adjusts the hood to the fenders. Somewhere in there is grille and bumper alignment as well.
