Wiper Motor Smoke- 69 Hurst

In my 69 Hurst the washer pump quit working. I pulled it part and found the arm was not properly engaging when activated by the magnet. I cleaned that area a little, tested with the battery. I re-attached it to the wiper motor, and it now works. However, when the wiper motor is on high speed, smoke comes out of the plastic around the washer pump. At low speed it does not appear to be making any smoke. Any thoughts on why it might be smoking on high speed and not low? I think the smoke is coming from the wiper motor gear area rather than the washer pump. I just got the car so I don't know how long it has been since the wipers were used. The washer bottle had a hole in it and now pick up hoe, so imagine it has been a while since the washer and probably the wipers have been used.

Thanks

Jay

Generally, all electric/electronic parts are made with varying amounts of smoke. When the part lets the smoke out it's no good anymore. With that said, for some reason the motor or something in the wiper assy is getting hot. Look for binding or areas overheating.
