I recently purchased a new (used) windshield wiper transmission for my 72 Cutlass. I purchased it off of eBay. The problem I was having was the ball on the windshield wiper motor kept slipping off. The new one fixed the problem. My question is the new one has like a key in the notches were the windshield wiper fits over it. My windshield wiper arm will not fit over this. Can somebody tell me what this is for, and do I have to buy a special windshield wiper arm to fix this problem. I will add pictures to show you the problem.

 

You'll need a wiper arm style that has the cutout for the pin/notch/key.

your problem appears that you own a post car, and the transmission you bought is for a hard top. the transmissions are different. The one transmission is for expossed wipers and the other is hidden wipers.

 

The problem was fix right? I have also a problem with my wiper. The variable speed would work for a while then the wipers would just stop.
