What are these exactly?

Well guys I need a little help... I bought (5) of these wheels a number of years back, like at the OCA National that was held in St. Louis ( don't remember the year - been toooooo long ago and parttimers is setting in). Can anyone identify what wheels these are (15x7) JJ and some other markings (sorry about the quality or lack thereof)... As for the bracket, I found it in one of the boxes that contains the bulk of my car. I have no idea what in the hell it is. Does it go to my '66 442? does it belong on a JD tractor? maybe it's a hood ornament off of a '33 Essex-Terraplane straight 8 conv. anybody???? trying to upload a pic of the wheel but I think it's too big. it's 3264x2448 with a size of 2.21MB. How can I get it posted so you all can see it?

Go to your photo editor and use the resize option so you can load it to this forum. The size you posted is waaaayyy to big to upload here. The other way you could post the pic is to copy the [IMG] url and paste it to the thread. It will show up as a full size image. Only thing is that if you move the pic or delete it where it currently resides, the image on the site will disappear to.

Have no idea what that thing is in the image you did upload.

wheel I.D.

I believe these might be 69 Hurst/Olds wheels but I'm not positive. If someone can definitely ID them I would appreciate it. I have (5) with one needing some repair on the lip. Not necessarily interested in selling them but if I decide to, I want to be sure they are what I say they are. I don't like misleading people. It just ain't right...

On the inside of the rim they should have 15x7 JJ stamped on them and also '890', they do appear to be 1969 H/O rims.

Mike, I agree. But the info from Oldsmobility.com suggests the SS11s with these features will look the same from 69-74. Starting in 75 they went to snap on caps. So these would be somewhere in the afore mentioned age group? From Nufo's pic I can't really tell the depth the trim ring on his wheel would be. If it's a 14X6 it could be a 68 with trim bezels added. I noticed that several of my SS11's have the raised surfaces that could be painted to simulate trim just like they did in 68, but they are 14X7 wheels. Have to check the date codes.

Nufo: if you open that Oldsmobility link, scroll to the bottom and check the numbers for the identifyers and you should be able to find out what they are. FYI, a large number of these wheels were Made in Canada so you might find that also stamped on inner part of the wheel.

One thing that's not mentioned on the Oldsmobility site though is the trim bezels were changed in the 80's to have sharper edges. The pic they show of the SS11 (upper/lower) you can clearly see that there is a mix of old/new trim bezels on one wheel - which is wrong. (the 2 left are old style - 3 right are newer)

h/o wheels ?

I am attaching more photos that I took. Figured out how to resize the photos (thanks to the great help from Allen R). They do have Made in Usa although it's hard to see in these photos. I'll try to do better tomorrow. I have been asked if I were interested in selling them. I am debating that very question. I have NO idea of their value, they are just something I thought long ago might look good on my '66... Here's more pics for viewing and I WILL verify tomorrow that all (5) are the same.... Thanks to all - Fred P.S. Can anyone identify the photo of the part I also included in this post??? I don't have a clue....

I think the key is the chrome outer rim and being 15X7's. The 1973-74 15X7 bolt on centers were painted body color or possibly argent with stainless trim rings. I believe only the Hurst Olds wheels got the chrome rim. They'll fit on other cars but its the person restoring a 1969 Hurst Olds that will pay top dollar for them. For price, if they were the 73-74 all painted wheels in nice shape they would go for $75-100 each. I'm thinking these would go for more to the right person. If the chrome plating is good I know I'd pay $100 each and run them on a 442 John

There is no question that those are 69 H/O wheels. These are the only 15x7s with bolt-on caps and chrome outer rims.

wheels & bracket

I'll clean the wheels up today and see what condition they are actually in. Checked every wheel for numbers - they all have 15x7 JJ - made in usa - 890 on them. But does anybody know what that bracket I attached in the first part of this thread is???? Don't wanna toss it if I need it someplace on the car, but if it's got nothing to do with this project then it's history... Thanks much to all who responded - Fred

I knw you said you might not be interested in selling these but like firefrost said i would liek a crack at them.... but only 1. My reason is I have the 4 for my car but one of them is bent on the chrome ring. My other reason would be for a spare tire in the trunk. No clue what the first pic is though TBH. Good luck with your project though

anybody figure out what this piece is yet?

wondering if anybody has figured out what this thing is yet??? also, got some more pics of the wheels. I'm convinced thanks to the responses that what I have are (5) '69 Hurst/Olds wheels. Any idea where I can get the bolt on centers? Originals or repop is fine....

Not sure on the part hopefully Joe P chimes in cause if anyone knows he probably will.

As far as the wheels I would have someone spin them before investing to much money in center caps etc. I have just picked up some of the same exact rims and two are so badly bent they are no good. The other two are so so. I had sent you a PM to let you know that I would be interested if you decide to sell them.

rims & thing

still looking for an answer on the "THING" as was previously posted maybe Joe P will check in and let me know, or anybody else that would like to take a stab at it. As for the rims I am researching the cost of having the one wheel fixed and all (5) rechromed. I'm looking into the PVD process and am actually leaning toward that way to go. Depending on the price of having these things rechromed (either PVD or Hexavalent) I will either put them on my car or list them for sale and let the next owner decide if they want to have them re-chromed.

Thing

Firefrost - I looked in the service manual in the steering section and couldn't find this part shown in the diagrams. Could you provide more info as to where it would attach? Thanks - Fred
