R71S topper

I’m pretty sure this has been discussed here but does anybody make a R71S batter topper? I see the whole batteries were reproduced to mixed reviews.
I also see the R59 topper is easily obtained but would not be correct for Olds big block A body but that may be the only choice when it comes to toppers?

I have never seen a r71s topper. Don’t think they make them. But you can take a r59 topper and change the sticker to a r71.

It seems that is the case Andy, aside from cutting the top off a junk R71S maybe? The thing is the R59 batt is smaller and doesn't fill the batt tray like the R71. Not a big deal just trying to make it look nostalgic. The topper is nice to cover an AGM or a current batt.

There is a company that sells a R71 battery with the guts replaced with modern stuff if you want to go that route but they are very pricey. Or you could do that yourself I’m sure given your level of skill shown in this thread.

If you go the battery topper route, be aware the topper actually shortens the battery posts, so that the battery cables sit high when installed.

I figured at least the thickness of the plastic cover anyway.

This is what I did when my R71S crapped out.

Paul It’s actually a little more. There is a raised section that surrounds the battery posts. I had to grind them down a bit to get the cable to sit down on the post. The areas ground down are covered by the cable clamp. I know this is a work around but it’s the least expensive way to “replicate” a R71 in my opinion.
