A proper working carb and choke

OK folks, still struggling with computer infestations and lack of photo transfer capability at home, but I can enter text at work....

Here is how a carb can and should work. [pix/ video if/when possible]

1985 442
Engine is 1977-79 Toronado 403 with 79 Toro QJet out of a boneyard and gone thru per famous books, with a new kit. About 2011-2012 I think.

Car has not been started since 10/2014. Parking Ticket in Ann Arbor 12/2014 notwithstanding.

remove air cleaner to see
blip open throttle, see choke snap shut
open throttle all the way, unloader forces choke open 8-10mm or so.

Put 2-3 oz fuel into carb bowl thru vent tube. Bowl gas is no doubt all gone after 6 months sitting...

Hit the key, she starts INSTANTLY [slight tic from an xst leak?]
Settles into high idle
Vacuum break pulls in, opens the choke the exact right amount.

No Worries.
I hate to give up on this rusty POS, it runs SO GOOD, but it is SO rusty.

I would like to sell the engine I guess and the car as parts or a parts car.
8.5" 3.73 rear end
overdrive trans
442 gray interior
front end is not bad
no sheetmetal aft of the firewall. None.
Buckets, console
Had working AC before 403
Rebuilt 403 with #6 heads.

Save the rest for the classified ad I guess.

This illustrates to all who are struggling with their carbs, as you so clearly state, "gone thru per famous books, with a new kit. About 2011-2012 I think", and " it runs SO GOOD". Funny how doing the basics works!

Right. After adding pix I was going to reference this for the Damsel in Distress with the POS buick frankencarb, and others, to show how it SHOULD work.

Yeah big bug eyes
I was going to remove the windshield to get the headliner out to fix or destroy it [sagging] and reseal the windshield but as soon as I took the windshield trim off it was all holes everywhere. Even above the glass, on the outside, where there should NEVER be rust.

I glued over the rust and windshield seams and put it back together. too far gone.

But it runs great.

Would you believe it was originally an Arizona car? It's amazing what 20+ years in Wisconsin and Michigan will do to a car.

Yeah some guy named Brian forced me to buy it!
It was much less rusty then.

So hey after 100 tries photobucket finally accepted a video

Note how the choke snaps shut as soon as the throttle is blipped
then at WOT [Wide Open Throttle] the choke is forced open a bit.

Last run 10/2014, videos are from 4/2015

so, which of the 4 links is useful for posting that working choke here?

Let's try "direct"

http://s19.photobucket.com/user/Rock...onnoy.mp4.html

Huh, more or less a fail.

or, "IMG" url using the Globe/Link Chain icon?

That seems best.

or, "html"
<embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid19.photobucket.com %2Falbums%2Fb172%2FRocket_Science_442%2F15102_403_ 21%2520Choke%2520amp%2520Unloader_zpstjoonnoy.mp4& title=">

or, "email & IM"

http://s19.photobucket.com/user/Rock...onnoy.mp4.html

Here is the engine firing up after SIX MONTHS of sitting
The only part you missed is, AFTER showing the choke snapping shut and the Unloader at WOT working, I added 2-3 oz of fuel via the vent tube. Right after that, this is how she fired up.

THIS IS HOW A CARB IS SUPPOSED TO WORK and how they can work if you don't dismantle and ruin everything.

Three worked for me - that one with HTML code string didn't work.

Sounds like someone needs a good donor body.

I vote for something that doesn't get as much love as it should.

Like a 79-85 E-body.

Or a 77-85 B-Body.

Extra points for 2dr 80-85 D88's & 84/5 LeSabre's.

Yeah, and he'll always feel a little guilty about that. But the intent was to part it out, not drive the heap!
