Oil pressure drop overnight, re prime?

Just rebuilt a 215, great little engine, installed a Melling HV oil pump kit. Car set for 3 days and when I started it there was a sound as if the oil pump had lost the prime. Rattle from the front part of the engine. Went away within 2-3 seconds and smoothed right out and ran fine. I'm using 20-50 oil and a New Wix filter. Live in Marietta GA, not a harsh winter here. Any ideas? can a pump lose its' prime? How do you correct it.
Thanks for your advice.
