New fuel tank 17 or 20 gallons?

I am getting ready to replace the old gas tank and i know the 17 gallon one is stock but i also know that GM made a 20 gallon type. The question is will it fit without any modifications? Would it fit period or is it made for bigger GM cars?

Every 68-72 I've ever owned had a 20 gal tank from the factory.
