Name that bell!

I purchased this cast iron bell housing in a wrecking yard back in the early 90’s. It was buried in layers of dirt and oil. This was preliminary planning to convert an ‘82 G body to a manual transmission. I ended up using a steel scatter shield for the project and ultimately this has become the base for my bench grinder. Can anyone tell me what it would have originally been installed? I used to have the fork which was not typical, it was longer and slotted at the end versus a domed cup for a pushrod. Just curious.

Is it an optical delusion or is the drivers side top bolt a lot higher than the passenger side ? Any numbers cast into the bellhousing anywhere ?

No, it is a standard BOP without a starter provision on the right. (No Buick’s) It may appear higher because the bell is mounted to a rotisserie head and is not quite centered. The only casting numbers are the 1 and 077 marked in the boss shown.

Early (64-only) Pontiac 389/421 in a full size car. Likely pretty rare.

Thanks Joe, I did notice that mine does not have the dual pattern gearbox mount, only a Saginaw/Muncie style. I'm not really inquiring for value purposes, just wondered after all of this time what it may have originated from. I am sure that it is certainly from the era you had described though. Kinda neat.
