Messed up steering column
Something is seriously wrong on my 67 442 steering. It pops loudly and when you have someone turn the wheel and watch the area by the firewall with the spring it moves all over. I’m not even sure what it is supposed to look like at the point.
I have that c clip in the notches on the steel piece but that plastic piece; might be compromised? It still moves all over. Not sure where that steel collar and the piece with the bolt going through it is supposed to be on the steering shaft either.
Any suggestions or photos would be great. Assisted steering if it matters
I pulled the collar away here to show that plastic bushing
Is this broke?

I've never taken one of these apart but it's been a day and no one has replied so.....
I looks like the bearing or bushing has seized at the end and everything is turning rather than just the shaft

You can see the bearing retainer housing in this one. 5th picture down

It's inside the outer steel sleeve.
You need to figure out how to un-seize from the shaft first though

Sorry, I didn't see the pictures when I saw the thread yesterday.
That sucker needs to come out and be rebuilt right now. That's really broken.
Note that I'm familiar with the 69+ columns, so parts availability and details may be different.
There's a plastic bushing that holds the bearing on its inner dimension and slips into the column in its outer. That bushing is generally available. Then there's a metal cup that holds it in place at the end of the column, with a clip that keeps the cup from sliding off.
All of the junk that you see should be stuffed up inside the column and retained.
You'll need to tear this thing apart, see what all is broken and/or missing, and probably get parts from someone here.
Please don't drive that car. That looks like it would be uncontrollable in a hurry.
