Help ID radiator overflow tank 1968 442
Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this but here goes. Can anyone help identify the overflow tank pictured below? The car (68 442) has been in my family since late 1969. My dad says he didn't install it and always remembered it being there. I'd like to find a similar looking replacement for it. I couldn't find any other numbers or identifying marks on it.
Thanks,
Ed

That's just an old universal parts store add on kit. I did a quick search & didn't see the exact kind you have anymore. I added one to my '68 that I got from Napa. It fits perfectly on my core support, I did have to drill 2 small holes in my core support upper rail & make a small bracket for the lower tab but I needed it to be out of the way of the ram-air intake tubes that I added to my car. It's made by Dorman & it's cheap. It even takes the later GM style screw on cap like I put on mine.

In the 1970s, the automotive section of every department store sold these universal overflow tanks. Sears, Wards, Penney, etc. Not to mention the ever popular JC Whitney catalog. The cheesy metal strap is the giveaway.

"Ed, is cleaning it up an option? There are also Olds repro kits for the 72 that might be backwards compatible." I think the strap can be cleaned up easy enough. The tank is cracked on top by the neck (thus the 'gunk' on it but I have not experienced any leaking problems etc. with it). That was why I started looking for a replacement. Looking at the repro tank kits it appears that it would work easily enough. From some of what I have read I understand that kit was designed to be retrofitted to the earlier cars (pre-72) if needed (but I'm not 100% certain that is accurate).
Thanks all!
