Greetings, haven't picked up a manual yet so sorry for the basic question, Can someone tell me if the temp control slider (warm->cool) adjustment is cable or vacuum controlled? Thanks in advance...
I assumed it was a Cutlass based on two things. First, there's a picture of one in his avatar. Second, he didn't mention what kind of car he has. When someone does that at an Oldsmobile site, you can pretty much assume the car they're talking about is a Cutlass because such people generally assume that EVERYONE has a Cutlass and therefore why does he have to say what model it is!
My other comment is, it isn't necessarily limited to A-bodies. The temperature slider on my '67 Delta controls a cable, doesn't it? I seem to recall it did the last time I looked under there. My car has only a heater. There's no A/C. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Why? My point was to show that non-A-body cars could have had a cable for the temperature control, and I did. I put in my disclaimer that not ALL non-A-body cars were equipped this way. Just that they could have been.

Go back and read Post #2. Your one-word answer was "cable". No disclaimer, no added info.
One more time, for an A-body car, "cable" is correct. For a full size car, it is not possible to correctly answer the question without further info.
Hope I’m not stepping on anybody’s toes but this thread seemed a good place to ask, on a 66 Cutlass W/O A/C, what does the air lever do? It doesn’t seem to do anything but I can feel a cable is hooked up. Thanks

The cable operates a flapper door inside the heater box under the dash that controls how much hot air from the heater core gets blended with cold air from outside to set the temperature. The cable connects to this bellcrank on the top of the box. Verify that the adjustment screw didn't come loose and that the cable isn't broken.
The flapper door pivot pins can rust, seizing the door and causing the cable to break. This shot is with the heater core removed from the box. That moving door inside the box (right behind the spray can) is the heat blend door.

I have a 66 CUTLASS with A/C so it is the other design of the air control box. My temp slider works ok, but the AC slider does not. Any suggestions on troubleshooting these? My granddad's solution to the initial jam was to use a bigger hammer. I'm not sure what all is messed up under there at the moment. I'm thinking to start with to pull the control box, but after any suggestions before I rip into it.
