Heater core repair for1968 Cutlass S convertible

Last night I got a couple drops of anti-freeze on the passenger side floormat. This is on my 1968 Cutlass S convertible with factory air(that does not not blow cold). The motor is the Rocket 350 2bbl with an automatic transmission on the column. One person told me I would have to drop the right fender well and remove it that way. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Bill

Just changed one in my '67. I wouldn't think yours would be a lot different. Loosened my inner fender. Loosened all the sheet metal nuts and removed the heater housing under the dash with the heater core attached inside the car. One of the nuts directly behind the fender liner was difficult to get at but with a jointed socket you can do it. Took about 2 hours but I'm a little slow. Have fun. Consult you factory assembly manual and shop manual.

X2 on the chassis service manual.
You can also do a search here as well.
It has been discussed in several threads.

Did this swap on my Rallye not too long ago. You dont HAVE to remove the inner fender well but it makes it a hell of a lot easier honestly. All you have to do from what i remember is just drop the well so you can get to 1 measly bolt... Hope this helps you on your adventure

heater core

I got home, read your replies and went to work on the Cutlass. I removed the fender well, drained the radiator and removed the top heater hose connected to the heater core nipple coming through the firewall. Ran out of light. Thanks for any more advice you feel would help. I don't have a service manual or anything else so your advice and tips are appreciated. Bill

wildaboutcars.com

Will have all of your service manual needs on computer .

If that doesnt help, you should buy one pronto online or something. They are a godsend for these cars
