They look like 2 different bumper assemblies structurally, but cosmetically they look pretty much the same. I bet the holder would likely bolt in place.

Thanks alot. Dumb question, but what bolts are used to fasten this license plate? You can't get your hand behind the bumper to tighten anything.

I just looked at a 1977 bumper I've got and the bracket bolts underneath, to the big steel support attached behind the chrome bumper. If you don't see anything in the face of your bumper, look underneath for a bolt hole and see if your year used the same setup.

You might want to check and see if the bumper holes for the bolts are threaded. My 72 has that feature and it's an OEM bumper. That saves having to put a nut on the other side.

If the car has never had a front plate bracket, look on the lower bumper bar and you should see two dimples in it in the bracket location. Drill these out and use large self-tapping screws to attach the plate bracket to the bumper.

My 74 has a NOS lower bumper that has never been drilled. I sure hate to drill it. Virginia and its stupid front license plate laws.

I know this may sound weird to you, but I really miss seeing a front license plate on vehicles - mostly for legal or identification reasons. You don't always see the one on the back. We used to have a 2 plate system up here in AB, but the gubment decided that it would cost less just to have one on the back. Not for safety reasons - just for cost cutting. I'd be willing to pay an extra 10.00/year just to get that extra plate back on the front of the car!

I have 2 small holes that are 6" apart. I assume that is where the bracket goes?

Sounds about like the same as my 72. Check those holes carefully - they may be threaded.
