That number is the VIN derivative of the car the engine came from.

3 = GM division = Oldsmobile

8 = model year = 1968

1 = assembly plant = Oshawa Canada

130833 = plant sequential number

The casting number (and letter) for the engine block is located on the front of the engine block, visible from the top, between the intacke manifold and the timing cover.

Hi Kyron,
1) same as what Randy posted above, 3(olds)9(1969)M(Lansing) 421187 is the VIN derivative and should match the last 6 numerals of your cars VIN tag.
2) 9 (1969) 654555 is the engine plant sequence number...means something to the engine plant but no one else

3) confirms its a 350 block.
