I know there’s an incredible amount of knowledge on this forum, just wondering Moving forward from the rear of the car my 65 old Starfire on the trans tag is 65-OD. The shop manual does not list a 65-OD transmission. I’m trying to identify it. I know it’s an original trans because the build sheet lists the O D type.
Attached are some pics.
The Chassis Service Manual was printed in Sept 1964. The change to the OD-code TH400 for use with the Starfire engine was announced in the Nov 1964 edition of the Service Guild Training Manual.
Judging by the information here, I’m guessing this was not one of Oldsmobiles‘s most popular transmission. I did find a service guild from 1964 on eBay which I bought. I think my transmission needs some adjustment on the switch pitch and downshift switches. Which I’m sure will be a nightmare thank you guys for your information.

It has nothing to do with "popularity". The OD trans was specially calibrated for use behind the 370 HP Starfire engine and was only used in that application. That means they were used in every one of the 15,260 Starfires built in the 1965 model year (less however many went out the door before the change to the OD trans in Oct-Nov 64). They were also used in every Ninety Eight and Delta 88 that came with the optional Starfire engine.
