Dual Gate hard to shift

My new-to-me 1970 Cutlass has a Dual Gate that takes a lot of effort to shift from Park into the gears. Is this typically the cable?

Most likely a cable either fraying in the housing or has a bind on it. You can disconnect the cable at the shifter and the trans linkage and operate each to verify no binding there.

You probably already know this but the Dual Gate cable is different than the non-Dual gate floor shifter cable.
