Decoding 1970 SX Cowl tag
Evening !
I'm in need of some code issues. Assisting someone that has all original 1970 SX convertible. Assembled in Linden N.J.
# ST 70 34267 E 347 BDY
TR 999
09B A51 56 HPNT
This is a Power Bench car but A51 denotes as a Strato Bucket ?
Also don't know if it is 09B or Q9B , would this be referring to the Seirra Brown interior ?
And from what I understand #347 is the unit number.
Any info would help. Car is all original, Galloen gold ext. Sienna or Seirra ?
Flash lightened front seat cover.

Here's what I have.
ST 70 = style/model year = 1970
34267:
3 = GM division = Oldsmobile
42 = model series = Cutlass Supreme
67 = body style = convertible
E = assembly plant = Linden NJ
347 BDY = Fisher body number (no relation to your VIN)
TR 999 = interior color and front seat type = saddle interior with a notch back bench seat
56 H PNT = lower body color (56) = ? (perhaps you have read that code incorrectly; could it be 53, 55 or 58 - nugget gold, galleon gold, or burnished gold, respectively?); H = convertible top color = gold
09B = time build code = September (09), second week of that month (B), 1969.
You are right in that A51 = strato bucket seats...don't know why that code would be there.

In 1970 the Cutlass Supreme came with split bench or bucket seats with a column shifter as a standard option. Console with floor shifter was extra. My guess is your car came with buckets with column shifter and somebody swapped in the bench. It's hard to tell in the pictures but does the front color match the rear? Look under the bench for inside bucket seat mounting brackets. Maybe it was done at the dealer before sold?

Randy, I think it is a #56 Galleon Gold and Saddle interior. I'd also pretty sure this might be original paint. Based on the build sheet it is a code A41 power bench seat. A65 Bench Notch. Other Codes included All "A" Codes : 02.31,39,41,65,90 Also U 57 and 58. Stereo and 8 Track.
This only represents about 50% of the options.

The 999 would definitely be for the original bench seat.
What is the A51 doing there after the build date? It may have related to some other special options.
Since the interior is original and she comes from Linden there is a good chance there is a build sheet slipped up under the springs of the seat seat - check the front first. If you see something there be very careful - it will want to fall apart.

Unless there is an error in my book, I don't see a "56" paint code for 1970. The only "gold" codes I see are the ones I stated previously - 53 for nugget gold, 55 for galleon gold, and 58 for burnished gold. But again, there just might be a mistake or miss print in my book. I'm thinking the A51 was a factory error and that the 999 code was correct for the notch back bench seat (notch back = fold down arm rest). The correct option code for the notch back bench seat is A65 but it would have been redundant for that code to be listed along with the 999 code.

It would also help if we had a good picture of the paint, so we could judge for ourselves. If the paint is Burnished Gold, then someone who has a Burnished Gold car will instantly recognize it and tell us.
