choke ?

choke ?

Any positives on leaving the choke off? Other than having to throttle up till the engine warms up.. The hole in the carb is capped, looks like i need a rod and plate.

Also, anyone know what this wire is/ goes?? connects to the a/c kickdown on the carb.

No. There are no positives to leaving the choke off. Yeah, on race Holley carbs people mill off the air horn and choke housing to gain a few CFM. That is not a concern on a Qjet installed on what appears to be a stock-ish engine that even has A/C. Put it back together.

Starting the engine without a choke means that you have to excessively pump the accelerator pump to get a cold engine to start. This causes raw fuel to wash the oil off the cylinders, leading to more rapid ring wear. That fuel also dilutes the oil, causing more wear. All in all, not a smart thing to do on a street-driven vehicle.

Also, anyone know what this wire is/ goes?? connects to the a/c kickdown on the carb.
What is the "a/c kickdown on the carb"? What is the year/model? what are the colors of the wires (the original ones, not the butt-crimped wire). Given the amount of wiring hacks we can see in that photo, it isn't clear what exactly is going on.

If you run without a choke make sure the linkage stays fully open or you will not get the carb secondaries to kick in.

Hey, Eric yah the linkage and everything is missing so the secondary kicks in.

Hey, Joe. The switch in front of the throttle linkage, i thought it was for the a/c? someone ran a white wire (not original) spliced into a brown wire.

I thought it was a trans. kick down, but its on the gas peddle also ( factory). But neither work also. Thanks, guys im pretty mechanically inclined but acouple friends ( mechanics) said to put a holey carb on, and i know it isnt the correct way to go.

The solenoid on the throttle is an idle stop solenoid. It prevents the idle from dropping all the way down when the A/C is on.

Thanks Eric, but why the wire? On the end, i thought it was a kick down..idk. Is it maybee a different year carb?

Its electrically operated through the A/C circuit. When energized it pushes the plunger out.

Ok cool, makes sense thank you. What you think of the carb.? im missing some pieces whats a good aftermarket q-jet? or a place to track the missing parts/ rebuild kit?

Thanks, Eric. Id love to send it out to be built. But that would be the end of the driving time here when i would get it back. Any thoughts on a jet q-jet from summit racing?
