Bucket seat trim

Does anyone know who has the best chrome piping for the 70 bucket seats, and how do you install it without it wrinkling? I bought some "extra thick" piping from ebay and don't like it one bit so I have to buy the original style. The last batch I got was from year one and it wrinkles on the corners if you just push it on. ???

Buy it from Ames, they were the first to make it, and as far as I know the best. It's expensive, but it's the fat stuff, molded to shape, no glue, clips on like original. Looks great and stays there. No wrinkles, it's molded to the part shape. You will have to trim the ends maybe, just a bit.

X2. I bought the correct molded seat piping with caps for my 1968 from Ames, and it fit perfectly. Part number A132ZK which I think fits 1968-72, but you should double check with them. Cost was $109.

I can see on their site that it has the correct profile but your saying that it's shaped like the seat aprons and backs right out of the box?

That is correct. The backs are U-shaped and the aprons are like S-shaped. Both pieces are perfectly shaped out of the box, it's a big box. These things are killer! I live several miles from Ames, I've watched them make them. They are made HERE in the USA, by AMERICANS. FYI...a 70 doesn't use the caps, you don't need them. DO not buy them elsewhere like TPP, Tamraz or whatever, even if they say they are made like that. Ames was the first and the best. I know it's a lot of $...you get what you pay for.

Yup, I've used those before. I've had 4 GTO's, I started buying from Ames in the early 80's when they started. Then late in the 90's I bought my 442. By then, I had a pretty good idea which parts I could use from Ames. At first I had problems buying for my 442, because they said they only sold GTO parts. When I told Steve Ames I was a past GTO customer, I had no probs. Now...they are happy to sell to Olds or Buick guys. They make a lot of unique stuff, and carry a lot of unusual HTF stuff...like 'vert pinchweld molding screws, etc. You should have had them comp you a catalog. Glad to help.

I went the el cheapo route and bought a pack of door edge trim from Walmart. Cost me around $8.00. It fits great, is very pliable, didn't wrinkle or bulge on the curves, stays in place very well, and cuts with a razor knife. I don't think anyone could tell the difference with just a quick glance.......

I got the trim and installed it already. It fit great and went on very easily. Looks like that will be the route I'll use from now on.

Glad they worked for you and you are happy. Definitely not the cheapest way to go, but they are absolutely the best available.
