Aftermarket / repro chrome bumpers experience ?
Aftermarket / repro chrome bumpers experience ?
Hello everyone!
I would like to know your opinions and advices / experiences regarding aftermarket/repro bumpers.
Prices are crazy and too high to rechrome the originals (about 4/5k$!!)
So I’m thinking of buying reproductions for my 69 Cutlass Supreme.
Thank you all for your feedback and experiences!

Repops are hit and miss. E.g. the front turn signal buckets on '72 tend to be welded in the wrong place on one side. It can be dealt with, but its annoying.
Almost all the vendors have a generous return policy. I got a rear that was missing a strip of nickel something like 1/8" by 2". Vendor swapped it out with minimal questions - including shipping.
One painful thing is paying more does not necessarily mean getting more. Some vendors just have a higher profit margin. There's usually no more than 2 actual manufacturers of these things. Golden Star is the most prolific.
You can generally spend as much - or as little - as you want on a rechrome. But I wouldn't be surprised if the minimum price for a decent (not show quality) job is over $1k now. Chrome shops are a dying breed.

I bought a pair of AMD bumpers for my '72 a few years back when their prices still had a 2 in front even with shipping and the rear bumper being a 442 cutout version.
Chrome on those is pretty damn good - the rear bumper has been on my car a while now with no issues. Front still in its box for that rainy day project...
