83 Cutlass Supreme 307 to V6 engine SWAP

Sorry if this is a repost but I'm new on here & didn't see a search bar...

So I have a 1983 Cutlass Supreme that has a V8 307 engine that I had rebuilt about 5 years ago... I'm in the process of swapping out the frame, the new frame is on and the header panel & fenders are still out. My engine had started leaking anti freeze from the head gasket on the passenger side, and just before I started to dismantle the car I notice the other side started to leak too. I have a V6 engine & tranny that I kept from a parts Cutlass I had (also 1983). I'm told that that V6 has more torque & is just a better engine than the 307 & I really don't want to put anymore money into that 307 so I want to put in the V6.

My question is about the computer...

Do I need to swap out the computer?

Can I bypass the computer?

The car is over 25 years old so in NY it just gets a safety sticker, no inspection needed, so the pollution system & catalytic converter is coming out.

The v6 is a buick motor, so you will need the frame pads, wiring harness, and computer from the v6 car.
Buicks have the distributor up front, and the starter wires on the opposite side.

I doubt the v6 has more torque, but you're right. A 307 with blown head gaskets isn't worth fixing.

If you can find a 68-72 Olds 350, it would be a bolt-in to the 307. Lots more power and can actually use the computer parts if desired. If not wating to keep the puter,, leave all that off and enjoy the 350 in stock form!

If I recall the fuel pump is on the other side as well, don't recall for sure when the electric pumps started though.

Rob, any reason a mid to late 70's 350 would not work? May be less pricey.

cool fellas thanks for the info... I was thinking of a 350 also but I already have the v6 with tranny so I would like to make use of it + its a lowrider with a fully reinforced frame so it's heavier & by using a V6 it'll some what even out the added weight issue.

So I made several phone called today & a few people told me that if I'm not using the pollution system there is no real need to even run the computer.
