8.2 rear axel outer dust seal

Hello
The outer dust seal that came with the new set9 bearing kit won’t seat into the backing bolt plate that holds the axel in. Are there any other options for this seal.

I didn’t think the 8.2” axles used Set9 bearings. Maybe post some pictures of what you’re working on?

This is the backing plate which holds the axel.

This is the gap that is left from the new seal.

This is how far out it sits off if the plate.

These are my axels. One with the seal bearing missing the race and the collar. I already took the other one off do to it not fitting. They are 28 spline axels.

This is one of the stamped numbers on the pumpkin.

This is the other number which I looked up and has led me to believe that it is a Buick rear end.

The center section.

The tube with the inner oil seal.

The car is a 1970 Cutlass base model with a 350 and a turbo 350 tranny.

OK, I think you have some mis-matched parts.

The 8.2" axle shafts use the sealed RW507 bearing and 8594S oil seal pressed into the end of the axle tube.
The 8.5" axle shafts use the open Set9 bearings and 712146 oil seal sandwiched between the bearing and the axle retainer.

It appears you are attempting to install the 8.5" bearing and seal on the 8.2" axle shaft.

Below are images of the two different bearing and oil seal designs. These images are of O-Type axles, but the 8.2" and 8.5" 10 bolt rearends use the same designs (respectively).

So is the top picture the 8.2. If so when I took the axel out there was an outer dust seal there. The picture I sent with the exposed bearing was a sealed bearing with a race on it till I tried to press it off. Then the race popped off.
