I am trying to decipher my data tag on a 74 olds CS cant find it anywhere all It goes up to is 72
any help

You are going to have to either post a pic of it, or manually type in what it says for anyone to help deciphering it for you. Once it's posted, shouldn't be too hard to hook you up with what everything means on there!

 

Why is it not riveted in place?

 

'73-'77 Data plates were not riveted...only screwed in place.

Hard to read...but, the "960" means black interior and "74" means Cranberry Red exterior. Next letter code looks like an "H"...which would be maroon top). If that other code is "AM6", that's your seat style 60/40 split bench. "11C" is your build date (third week of November).

 

On the top does it. MEAN painted roof or vinyl

 

That would be a vinyl roof. Painted roofs would have had another number paint code instead of the "H".
