72 Supreme Convertible ac firewall to non ac firewall

Ok newbie question here, has anyone converted a Supreme Convertible (72) AC firewall to Non AC firewall? I was going to just section out enough to weld in the non AC portion to replace the AC version. Asking for a friend 🤪…
Or is there a better way, what am I missing….

Your call. You can swap in a complete firewall if you want - it's the same as the Chevelle and readily available in both configurations. Or, if you don't actually want the heater either, you can just block the opening.

The right way to do this is to swap out the entire firewall. As noted, repros are available, however while the Chevelle firewall certainly works, it is not EXACTLY correct for an Olds. This only matters if you are doing a 1000 point restoration on a car like a W30.
You can section in the heater box area. How well this works depends on your butt welding skills.
You can use the aftermarket "A/C delete" box on the current firewall. This requires you to retain the A/C control head on the dash and the vacuum-operated HVAC box under the dash if you want the heat and defrost to work.
You can simply blank it off if you don't want heat/defrost.

I used the aftermarket ac delete cover, for me it was the simplest choice.Question, my 72 supreme firewall has more of a vertical hole in it , the one pictured here is more horizontal was there a difference for some reason?

The vertical hole is for a car equipped with A/C, heater only cars get a rectangular shaped hole for the rectangular heater case.
