72 Front Grilles

Anybody have some advice as to getting the gap between the hood and grilles
tighter ,Ive seen the gaps all over the place on the NET but I'd like to acheive a tighter gap if at all possible.I know my picture is kinda hard to tell from the angle but its about a !/2 in gap from the bottom of the hood to the top of the stone shield.

subscribing to this because I want to know too.

According to the CSM the gap is supposed to be .25" + or - .10. So if you are at .5" it's beyond spec. But on the other hand, my car has exactly the same issue.

Have you thought about lowering the hood bumpers on the side a bit so the hood can latch lower? One of my problems is the hood appears to not be mounted square on the hinges. I need to move it forward about 1/3" inch on one side and 1/4" on the other.

Hi Allan ,I did move the bumpers down somewhat until the hood was even with the top of the fenders but i going to try your idea and move the hood forward a bit and see if the gap changes at all ,keep you posted.

I figured that I'd bent the front clip a bit in relation to my fenders by leaning over it so much to screw around with the engine. My gap is about 5/8".

So I played around with my hood and brought the hood forward some and now my gap is 3/8 " which looks a lot better , and as a bonus the hood actually closes nicer now !

Very nice! Now put the stone shield rocket in there and you're in business.

Nope can't put the Rocket back in I have to paint the stone shield and the headlight covers first.I have some paint that I used for the inside of the fenders but it's a bit too dark so I'm going to take the car over to the paint supply shop to get them to match the rest of the car's paint so it'll be closer, especially with the location of the stone shield ,if it's too dark it'll stick out like a sore thumb. Now you why I put it all back together ,not only will it give me a better feel for how it all goes back together but i can make the adjustments now without damaging the fresh paint.

Makes perfect sense. The shadow on the front of the car made it hard to see that it needs paint.
