72 cutlass supreme springs

not sure whats going on with the new front coil springs i installed ,but ive got everything on the car except the hood and still cant get the shocks installed seems way too stiff .i ordered 350 springs w/ac from rock auto .i did eliminate the ac but wanted a little stiffer spring.the new springs are physically the same height as the originals.ive double checked that they are seated properly .i have new tubular a-arms not sure if that changes things .i fear i will have to change them out was hoping for some insight thanks

When you put the front shocks in the pocket with the upper shank through the mounting hole, how much shock is still hanging down before you push it up to install the lower fasteners?

I'll have to get back to you when I get home I'll take some measurements .right now I have 8.5 inches between the top of the inner fender and top of the tire not sure what that measurement would be on stock ride height but seems excessive to me .before I installed the fenders and core support there wasn't enough of the shock shaft sticking up to get the nut started

It's most likely because of the tubular arms. I don't think the spring pockets are as deep as originals. I put tubular on mine, but went with adjustable coil overs.

Did you tighten the control arms without weight on them?

I did the final tightening after it was on the ground but there was no front end or engine in the car

That may be the problem. Try loosening, bounce the car, and retighten.

finally got back to the olds mother nature threw a wrench in the works with snow i had to deal with .i loosened the a arm bolts and it seemed to do the trick ,the car is now bouncing on the springs pretty good ,i will double check the torque specs and try to install the shocks .thanks for the help i should have left the bolts loose until after the motor went in .it always helps to talk it out with other members

Everything may need to settle a bit. I'd leave it alone until you can drive it and exercise the suspension.
