70-72 repro instrument cluster bezel

70-72 repro instrument cluster bezel
About to buy one and noticed in the Fusick catalogue that there had been "fitment" issues with these (they admit it on the page, but say the problem has been solved). Thought maybe to try H&H restorations. Anyone purchase one of these and have a story to tell?

I purchased one off eBay about a year ago. about 10 seconds with a Dremel tool, removing a little material from an area not seen when installed and the piece fit fine. it was on the bottom where the screws attach the bezel to the dash.
I don't know how many makers there are of that part but there can't be that many. But there are some that don't have the upper lip finished black like the original.
I purchased a roll of walnut grained vinyl overlay that matched the rest of the dash perfectly. it took 3 or 4 tries to cut the insert for the bezel but it was still much cheaper than purchasing the entire overlay kit.

Found out there are 3 types.
#1 H&H rechromes old/used bezels and sells those.
#2 Parts Place makes new ones which by all accounts do not fit properly(Fusick was tired of this problem and decided to make their own & H&H said their woodgrain w/ the metal backing will not fit properly on the bezel made by Parts Place).
#3 As mentioned above, Fusick has taken a NOS piece and made a mold of it, and now sell their own bezel which comes w/ a lifetime guarantee.
One final note, the bezel from Fusick comes with the top part painted (like the original), but the H&H bezel is not painted on the top, just chromed. Parts Place (if you're brave enough to buy), also comes painted.
Also, technically there was a 4th choice, Paul's chrome...$325.00. Since Fusick's piece is $89.50 I didn't think anyone would care about the expensive offering.
There's the update for anyone thinking about buying one.

That's interesting feedback guys. So far I've been happy with The Parts Place but I take your comments on board & I note that Fusicks have added "now with correct tooling" to their catalogue. Is it an easy piece to fit? Have either of you fitted a new dashpad & if so how difficult is that?
BTW,...you cars look fantastic !

glad to hear it. it was funny when i first seen this post because the day before i was talking to a guy that was complaining about all the ones that don't fit good. he showed me the new ones from fusick and how well they fit. now i just hope that there hood insulation is as good as he said. he did not have one of those to show me. with it being Fusick, i'm not worried.
