69 sport mirrors

i have seen many pictures of 68-69 cutlass with ''sport mirrors''. are they parts store pieces, or mirrors from another model?

No, they are sport mirrors specific to the Olds Cutlass. They kind of look like they were not thought out the same way other mirrors were, but that's the way Olds did it in the day. My all time favorite sport mirror is the one on the 70. So unique, simple and appealing. Too bad it's a one only year - sort of like the 70 Cutlass fenders - a one year only stamping.

You might want to check out the 68/69 Buick/Chev/Pontiacs. Olds wasn't the only one with sports mirrors and the body contours fo 68/69 A bodies weren't all that radically different. One more thing: the sport mirrors weren't a big seller back in the day when most cars only came with a drivers side mirror.

Case in point: 1969 Chevy Camaro

1969 Pontiac GTO Notice the body lines more closely match Olds Cutlass than the ones on the Camaro

Unfortunately, the only factory-installed outside mirrors for the 68-69 A-body Olds were the oval chrome ones. The one exception is the 69 H/O with the Talbots. The 1970-72 mirrors don't work well due to the difference in the door sheet metal, as noted above.

The closest and best fitting sport mirrors for a '68 & '69 Cutlass are ones from a '73 Omega... How do I know that??

Joe, Are you sure the 69 H/O mirrors were " Talbots" I read they weren't. I know they sure look like them. I had a set of Talbots on a 66 Austin Healey 3000 [back when the ark was drying out]
