Just bought both a left and right tail light assembly with lenses because the price was right and it doesn't hurt to have daily driver spares. What is interesting, however, is that they have different lenses. The one that I know, which is labeled as a Guide 34A, and the other is a Guide 33 which is adorned with a 1/8" chrome inset about 3/8" all around the lens. In researching it, I found that the "chromed " one is claimed to be for the Cutlass Supreme. None of the Olds Parts Supplier Establishments make a delineation between the two but rather infer that the only OEM lens is the plain one. Interesting. Curious to know where I could get another.

You are right, the stainless insert was used on the Supreme tail light lenses, they did the same thing in '70 for those lenses also.

 

Yes. My '70 CS has inserts as well. So I'm guessing that the "inserted" '69s must be pretty hard to replace. Just checked the Brothers Catalogue on line and they show the '70 lenses with the inserts as the only replacement option and the '69s are available only as plain without inserts. Go figure.
