68 442 Shifter Console 700R4 question
So I am putting a 700r4 in my 68 442 clone, but it appears that the newer hurst 4spd auto shifter doesn't want to cooperate with the original console. I really don't want to use the small plastic one that comes with the shifter.
Has anyone heard or had any luck with mods or even swapping out another year console that could work with this set up?
Since its a cruiser and not numbers matching, I dont mind a lil modification.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Have you thought about using a factory shifter with a 4 speed conversion from www.shiftworks.com ?

I have a couple of 4 spd Dual Gates but haven't gotten around to installing them in 70 style consoles. It is my observation/opinion that you will need at least the correct Olds type mounting brackets, then figure out locating & mounting them to the shifter body of the 4 spd as it is different from the Olds 3 spd body. For that matter isn't the Olds 68/9 Dual Gate different from the next generation70-up type?
My plan for the bucket/console conversion in the blue car is to set everything up with the proper Olds 3 spd Dual Gate & then make the necessary adaptations for the 4 spd.
We have a 200-4R in the red car that was set up w/ normal Olds 3 spd Dual Gate & cable. Worked but couldn't access manual low. Put the Shift Works cable in & gained some travel but it works a tad stiff & vague but the shifter has some slop in it which could be part of the problem.

Thanks.......I think I may just use the aftermarket shifter and mini console for now, but plan on slapping the original console that I have into the car and probably go with that above suggested "Shiftworks" adapter kit.
My stock shifter has the little T lever missing, so I may just try to find another oem 3 speed complete shifter and add the adapter kit.
