64 cutlass fuel tank vs Chevelle

Is anyone familiar with the difference between the cutlass and Chevelle gas tanks in 64. Rock auto shows two different parts and so does tanks inc. tm37a for cutlass and tm37b for Chevelle

I guess I知 wondering because the only difference I see is the Chevelle tank shows an integrated filler neck on ever source I find and the olds tank shows non neck on each website.

the tank I took out had the neck attached I知 almost positive.

the both show same physical dimensions as well at 37.25x30x6.75

im mainly asking because I found a efi ready tank for 64 Chevelles over at cpp and it was very reasonably priced. Was curious if anyone had experience with it but If it doesn稚 work I guess it痴 moot

All 64-67 GM A-Body tanks are the same but differences in the filler neck. Buy a 66 Chevelle tank with filler neck and you should be good to go.This doers not apply to station wagons.

I bought a 65 Cutlass tank for my 66 so the vent was correct. Look at Auto City Classics.

Yes but the Chevelle tanks are cheaper for some reason. The 66/67 filler neck is different and has to be put in the 65 Olds or 66 Chevelle tank for correctness. I put a 66 Chevelle tank in my 66 with the correct 66 neck and worked perfect. The Chevelle tank from Rock Auto was $90 and the 65 Cutlass tank was over $200 @ the time.

My 65 tank from Auto City Classics was $97 dollars. Not painted galvanized. Not a stainless tank.

There are also differences in the vent tube routing. Example: 66 chevelle the vent tube is located on the inboard right rear wheel well above the axle. 66/67 GTO the vent tube is located above the license plate area at the rear of the tank. I am not sure where the tube attaches to the tank on a cutlass, although I think they are in the rear like a Pontiac (I think that is where the vent tube was on a 67 4 door hardtop that I parted out years ago). When I say vent tube, I am not talking about the filler neck where fuel goes in, but the small line (approx. 5/16 - 3/8) where excess pressure is vented to.

Yes correct but I was talking size/fit. That's why I used a 66 Chevelle tank in my 66 442 so the vent would be correct. Most vendors sell the 67 tank for 66 applications which is wrong as far as vent location.

That's why just buy a 65 tank. Same place as 66.

I beg to differ. The 65 has a straight filler neck where as the 66 has a curved filler neck. I have seen a 65 tank in a 66 and it will work but it's harder to put fuel into it.

I've dealt with reproduction tanks for 25 years.

I compared alot this morning and if you can rely on pictures this is what i found:

a 64-67 Chevelle tank is listed as gm37b at both rock auto, and tanks inc. It has an attached straight neck

a 64-65 cutlass tank is listed as gm37a on both sites and has no filler neck included
the 66-67 cutlass tank is listed as gm37g on both sites and has a bent neck

I would like to use an efi tank so the EFI tanks from CPP and tanks inc look the same except the neck from cpp looks straight and the tanks neck has a bend

So does anyone have experience with efi tanks from
CPP
https://www.classicperform.com/Compl...6467CFIT-K.htm

or tanks inc

Just to clarify. You're saying a 65 filler neck is the same as 66/67,right?

No I am not. I'm saying it works. To do a 66 tank properly the only way is solder original into a tank.

OK,gotcha now. That's how I did the 66's I've built. I built one for a buddy who already had a 65 tank in it and I left it that way. It will work as you say but it's a little harder getting to the cap. Thanks for the clarification.
