4 door starfire?
4 door starfire?
hey you guys, i picked up a new project, a 62 olds super 88, a few things dont make sence though, the badge on the trunk lid sais starfire and the title also marks it as a starfire, i dont know much about these cars but from what ive seen starfires were only 2 door models, yet searching the super 88's they only have the single tail lights where as my car has 2 on each side like the starfire, ive heard the 4 door no post is rare enough, but did olds ever make a 4 door starfire? can anybody point me in the right direction? lemme try to get some pics loaded
No 4-dr Starfires ever. 88's got 2 tail lamps, Ninety Eights and Starfires got 4.
Unfortunately your posted pic is too small to see any detail, but it was probably customized at some time in the past using Starfire parts.
Other than the tail panel, it looks like a Super 88 holiday sedan to me.

Closest thing to a 4-door Starfire would be a 1967 Delta Custom Holiday Sedan, with its Starfire-like side trim. I think the buckets/console were available in the Holiday Sedan, but not sure. You see a lot of the 2D HT with them.
Agreed. Car probably took a hit in the tail and had a Starfire decklid and tail panel installed. Check the trunk pan for damage or evidence of straightening.
I always thought all the 62s should have had four taillights, or at least all had the chrome lens trim. That single nekkid taillight on either side of an 88 looks just a bit cheap for an Oldsmobile.

ok well i havnt found any body damage. im in the process of sanding it down right now. the dash sais super 88 as well as the emblems on the front fenders. the car was last on the road in 75. still had the old plate on it when i got it. ill keep looking for filler or welds as i sand. i do like the looks of the quad taillights vs the dual. by going through the mechanics of the car theres no possible reason i can see for parking it in 75. i think it might just be one of those lil old lady got a new car and parked this one in the barn stories.
found it. the tail end has been grafted in. from the rear point on the passenger side to about half way up the quarter panel is from a starfire. i still dont get how it got titled as a starfire but stranger things have happened. on the plus side im almost half way done on the sanding. so i could be ready for paint as soon as next week
very true. the thought of doing a proper restoration was killing me. the fact remains its still a 62 olds with 81 thousand original miles. i dont think ill go too wild with it. not yet anyway. oldsmobile had great body lines back in 62. ill probably finish the paint for right now and drive it for awhile.
