Does anyone know whether all 394 cranks are drilled for manual trannys? I have found two 394s that have slim jims attached. I need a manual tranny application.
The only 394 cranks that were drilled for a manual trans , were the ones that came with a manual trans . Slim to no chance of finding one of those !
However , Automatic trans cranks can be easily drilled by any competent machine shop ,
You will need a pilot bushing , Dorman # 690-014 ; https://www.ebay.com/itm/1Qty-Dorman...frcectupt=true
The crank will have to be drilled to 7/8 in. about 1 and 1/2 in. deep and then finished machined to .003 less than the OD of the bushing ( for an interference fit ) .
The finishing cut should only go the depth of the length of the bushing . Then the bushing should be pressed in . Put about 1/2 teaspoon of grease in the cavity behind the bushing for lubrication .
I got the crank for my 394 drilled and the bushing installed for less than $100 at Sackett's Machine Shop in Orlando .
Here's an illustration ;
