371 extra capacity oil pan on ebay

There is a listing for an oil pan with an extra canister on on side for extra capacity. Never seen one before. Is this a factory option or backyard fabrication? Sidebar- an old fellow that lived about 8 miles from me(rural), had cars sitting all over his farm place. The few times we visited, he would always talk about a 57 98 he had in the garage. He was beyond an oddball and i never dared stop at his place. I would drive by his place every now and then and wonder what was all in there. Well, he went into a nursing home a couple months ago and his nephew is getting rid of everything. I stopped by because the cattle gate was open across the drive. I spoke with the elderly brother in law and asked to look around. Could look but not go into buildings. A large garage was open, with a caved in roof . Sitting under the hole(over the trunk) is a 56 convertible. Couldnt tell if an 88 or 98. But against one wall in the dark sat the 57. 98 two door hardtop. White. Looked like black and white interior. Hood was up and i did walk in quickly. Intake missing but is a factory a/c car. No rust or dents on driver side. Was sitting up on blocks. Finally saw it! Many newer 98s, toros and eldos that had the **** driven out of them. Many many corvairs. Just wanted to share. If only i was filthy rich.

The first time I saw one of those pans I thought it was homemade but it is actually a factory item.

I remember seeing a neophyte mechanic with a filter wrench on one of those canisters , straining to remove it .
He thought it was an oil filter .

To the best of my knowledge that's the way the pan was made in 1957. It's neither a backyard fabrication nor a factory option. The Olds shop manual, owner's manual, and parts book all indicate one oil pan for '57; capacity 5 quarts (with an additional quart in the filter).
