1971 cutlass convertible rear seat

I am installing the rear seat bottom in my cutlass convertible. The seat was not install when I purchased the car. I do know how to do this as I have done this on other cars. The back of the seat is flush with the rear wall but the frame will not slide into the front slots on the floor. My question is are there different seat frames for different years of cutlass (the frame may be form another year or different A body car)? Is there away for me to tell if I have the correct frame? If not, any suggestions on installing I may not be aware of.

Thanks' for the help.

I'm not certain about differences in convertible rear seats from year to year, but I know the 'vert seats are narrower than hardtop seats. I"m guessing you don't have a width issue based on your post.

Mine is really hard to get into the slots. I have to brace against the front seat back and use my knee and hands to push the front lower edge back into the slot to get it to engage. I really can't convey how difficult this is; some times I have felt totally exhausted after struggling with it. I have to say it is more difficult than my '70 hardtop was.

I agree with Kenneth, my 70 Convert rear seat is a real pain in the neck to install, the drivers side not to bad, but the passenger side it takes all I've got and then some to flex the seat frame enough to get it to go in the slot....

Can you take some measurements of where the hooks are suppose to fit into the seat? I'm with the other guys suspecting its just being really hard to flex the spring into the hook. But if you take some measurements you can verify it lines up.

Thank you all. I'll take some measurements and go from there.

Same with my 72. I am too tall to do it with the front seats in the car, so I have to remove the front seats. I brace myself against the front of the car and with my feet, push on the bottom frame rail of the seat bottom to get it in the retainer. It definitely has to flex some. What should be a straight forward job, takes a lot of time and energy.

Wow, I thought it was just this particular car that was a PITA based on how easy my '70 hardtop was. I wonder if it's just convertibles, or are most cars like this and my '70 was the exception?

Gentlemen thank you for your responses. I have not yet had a chance to get back to the car. I should have some time this week. I'll post my progress. If anyone has more suggestions please post.

My 1971 is also a PITA. It is pretty snug so I do not bother hooking it anymore, as it seems that I need to remove it once a year for one reason or another. I am just happy to learn that it is a common issue.
