1971 350 intake ???
Have a 1971 Cutlass ragtop, 350 4 barrel, that my father bought new. I rebuilt pretty much the entire car about 15 years ago. When I rebuilt the engine I Used the stock "Bathtub intake Gasket". Now I'm seeing that "Normal intake gaskets" can be had. ( 4 pieces, 2 sides a front and a rear, NON Bathtub) is there any Dis advantage to using them ? I've never like steel shim tub gaskets. going to change the cam. Thanks for the Input
There has always been an application for a 4 piece intake gasket set. The side pieces are steel shim, just without the tub in the middle.
There are also composition material gaskets, which I like to use with aluminum intake manifolds.

The turkey tray always worked fine in the day. I had a problem about 5 years ago because the tray didn't fit right. I found it wasn't manufactured quite right, the locator punches were off. The problem I can see without using the turkey tray is if the oil splashes up on the bottom of the intake and gets all crusted up because of the hot exhaust passage for the choke. I have read from others that that is not a problem, hopefully those who did that will answer. I do know that is one heavy piece to put on over the fenders!!

I ran into the same issue as Greg. The boss locator punches were off and made the gasket a solid PITA to install. I had to basically grind off two of the boss locator punches to get the gasket to sit correctly.
Slinging the 45lb intake manifold over the fenders/engine & dropped into alignment - not fun.
