1970 F85 Decode? Painted roof?

Hi all,
Doing some surfing around the net and looking for other F85's like mine and can't seem to find other pics of the white painted roof. I am pretty sure that was the MO for F85's but has everyone had repaints and gone one color with the whole car? Here is a pic of the data plate and would like to see if someone can tell me what it says?

Thanks
Tom

Your trim tag is consistent with the color of your car. And, nice car! Here's what I'm seeing with your trim tag.

ST 70 = style/model year = 1970

33277 = 3 (GM division = Oldsmobile) 32 (model series = F-85 V8) 77 (body type = club coupe)

BF = assembly plant = Fremont CA

00362 BDY = Fisher body number (no relation to the VIN)

TR 904 = interior color and front seat type = gold interior with a bench front seat

63 10 PNT = 63 (lower body color = copper), 10 (upper body color = porcelain white)

02D = time build code = February (02), 4th week of that month (D) 1970

322889 180285 are numbers unique to the Fremont CA assembly plant. There are people on this site that are working to break what these numbers mean but I don't believe anyone has completely done that as of yet.

My F-85 had 2 tone paint originally, light green bottom with dark green top. I do not have any pics because it was already in primer. I have seen another 70, blue bottom and painted white top.

My 70 Cutlass 4 door sedan is Reef Turquoise with a black painted roof. Seems to me the painted roof was a $19 option.

Well thanks Randy and My442 for the info...doesn't take you guys long at all!

Wow Slantflat, the first buyer went all out on this car, he spent the $19 for the painted roof AND it has original gold carpet as well as a remote drivers mirror.

orange442, and Slantflat..nice to know there were other painted roof cars out there.

m455sx, yes, these are the non parking wiper arms..must've cost extra for the parking wiper arms.

I am gonna keep it the original colors fyi, I am considering putting a set of 70 Sport Mirrors that I have on it...They are white right now....thinking it would look odd and out of place leaving them white...so I will get them painted after my 68 is running....this spring...fingers crossed.

fantastic looking car, I have seen a few base Cutlii with painted roofs, i think they are great looking. Seems most i have seen have been from the south, makes sense white tops in the south. I never saw a black painted top, that would be neat to see. Gald to read you will be keeping it the color scheme it was born with. Cool and Unique!

My 68 W-30 has a factory painted roof. White car, black roof, red W-36 stripes. I'm probably not going to put it back that way. Personally I'm not a fan of the two-tone look on the 68-72 "fastback" cars as the like of demarcation between the colors (or the vinyl top) is forced. The 64-67 cars and the 70-72 Supreme Hardtops look better (though I still prefer monotone).

Approx 1,100 F85 V8 Sports Coupes came with the 2-tone paint. That's about 12%.

Kurt,

I think you missed the "".

I'm guessing that's a reference to the sudden rash of 442s cloned into F-85s.

Nice looking F-85 !!!!

I used to own a 1972 Cutlass S Post Coupe about 10 years ago.
Body was Covert Beige with a Baroque Gold roof.
I loved it when people asked where did the vinyl top go......hated the know it-alls that said they were never painted. Car is out west, maybe Oregona last I heard and still pretty dang clean / about 60K orig miles on it.

Thanks for the compliments guys. It is pretty much original...134,000 miles. Windows got tinted too dark for my taste..I will finish my convertible (get it running..as we all know they are NEVER finished) then add a rear sway bar and boxed control arms to the F85. I had duals put on when I first got it in 2000, I have a set of 15" SSII's that will fill out the wheel wells a little better, but the 14" Radial T/A's are pretty fresh...so down the road maybe.
