I suspect this question has been asked before. Regarding exterior "Cutlass" emblems on '70s I've seen them with black and with white painted recesses. The reproductions are black. NOS seem to be either way. Looking at old photos including the dealer brochures, and more recent photos of what appear to be unaltered vehicles I've also seen generally white but some black. What's the history on this?

The only time I've ever seen white ones is when the grooves are filled with dried wax.
