1968 cutlass/ 442 fender eyebrow trim replacement

I need to replace the eyebrow trim on my 68. I performed a search here (and elsewhere) on this topic. I saw a post dating back to 2007 in which one member stated one could get at the nuts from inside the engine bay, with a long extension (that may have been for a 69 only). I do have the chassis service manual... Just didn't want to take apart the front end to replace these if there is an "easier" way.

Thank you

That was probably me.

The easiest way is to remove the fender but it's possible to get to all the nuts with a long extension and a lot of patience. Getting them back on is a lot harder than getting them off.

The eyebrow molding passes through both the fender filler and the fender so the studs naturally want to get bound up

I've done this many times on the 68-72 cars. You need a long extension and a deep socket (to clear the studs on the trim). It requires a lot of tactile sensitivity to get the socket over the studs and stamped sheet metal nuts, as this is totally blind. A telescoping magnet will be helpful when you drop the nuts.

And remove the battery from the tray

renting a borescope for a day might be a worthwhile investment.

No borescope needed. Long 1/4" extension, 3/8" deep socket, battery out... All 4 came right off.. Thank you all!
