1965 tail panel

Will a 1964 Cutlass tail panel fit on a 1965 Cutlass ? Are the bolt patterns the same? I know the design is different, however I like the look of the 64 tail panel and lights. Thanks Bassingyt

I think, not 100%... the 64 tail lights are more elongated than the 65. I think this is why the corner rear caps that mount to the rear corners on 64 is narrower than the 65s. It’s looks visually the center on the 64 is longer than 65 but maybe an optical allusion. I don’t think I have any 64 tail lights if I do I will match up to 65s I have. Great question!

I've got loose tail lights for both, and the panel in between them somewhere in the garage! JATA if you don't beat me I'll locate them and take some photos/measurements.

I won’t beat you too it...sounds like you have all the stuff readily available. I’d have to do some digging.

Here are some pictures of a 64 tail light housing and lenses, it may help figure things out..

seriously doubt if it will look right if it would " fit", 64 is straight up and down 65 is on a angle

The sheet metal looks different. The bumpers are definitely different.

The trunk lids have different part numbers in the parts book.
The fender extensions are different part numbers.
The rear bumpers are different part numbers

Yes, I agree with the others. You'd need to do metal work to make them interchange and in my opinion your car is way too nice for that! I've got the tail lights side by side but wasn't able to locate a loose 1964 OLDSMOBILE panel this morning. I do have a 1965 panel set against the Sheetmetal between the tail lights on a 1964. The 1964 panel is shorter and the 1965 has a light peak in the center. Let me know if any of the pictures are unclear or if you want to have measurements of anything. John

64 vs 65 tail panels and lights

Thanks to everyone that has responded to my question. I could not see the differences on the car,but with your side by side pics I now see what the differences are. Now I might have to spend my money elsewhere. LOL Thanks again Bassinguy

Talking I've got the answer!

Do you have room for another car? One of each, a 1964 and a 1965?

2blu442 Thanks for the offer. Not at this time. I am happy with mine. It has a 330 4 speed with bucket seats. No show car, but a nice car for me. Bassinguy
